International friendly: Wales vs England

Craig Bellamy says England's squad depth is remarkable that matchmakers wouldn't pair them against the Welsh team.

The Welsh squad meet England in a friendly at the national stadium on this Thursday before their important qualifying match against Belgium next the following week.

England manager Tuchel has left the likes of Jude Bellingham, Foden and Jack Grealish from his squad for the match against Wales and their World Cup qualifier against Latvia.

"The English have a incredible squad, like France," the coach remarked.

"England have a transfer market value of 1.4 billion pounds, Wales' is £170m. If you were a fight promoter, you would not match us up. That wouldn't be permitted."

He explains making sure Wales can face the talented rivals is a "driving force".

The Wales head coach continued: "We don't go off market prices, but the simple fact is they don't just have a single lineup. They have multiple and the French and other nations are similarly stacked. They have loads of great players and that's a fact."

"A defender was ruled out injured the recently and there's only 24 more to go! They've got 60-odd players. I'd love Wales to be well-equipped like them."

The neighbouring countries last faced each other at the 2022 tournament in the Middle East, when the English emerged as easy victors in a fixture before the previous England team made it to the quarter-finals.

The new manager is Tuchel, a Champions League and world club champion at Chelsea who has claimed league championships in France and his home country.

Bellamy was formerly an assistant at the Belgian side and the English club to Kompany, who succeeded him at Bayern Munich.

"He's an incredible manager - his record is proven," Bellamy noted.

"I possess some sort of understanding because the club he left I am familiar with individuals who have joined. I gain a bit of an insight there of his methods and it's very impressive. "

"His tactical detail is top level and I wanted to be facing that - observe how you're going to adapt because he adapts too. I will get to learn from that. I'd love to reach that level."
